Prof. Narayanan acquired PhD in Civil Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India in 1998 for the work titled ” Improving Cyclone Resistant Characteristics of Roof Cladding of Industrial Sheds”. His research areas are Structural Engineering (including wind and earthquake action on structures) and construction management. He worked as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Selection grade Lecturer in TKM College of Engineering (1990-2004), Visiting Lecturer at Physical Infrastructural Centre, Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane Australia, Associate Professor in University Malaysia Sabah(2004-2007) and in University Technology Petronas (2007-July 2014), Perak, Malaysia and published many papers in conferences and journals and three books. He has conducted a sponsored course on “Disaster Mitigation- An Update for Civil Engineers” for All India Council of Technical Education, course titled ” Load and Resistance Factor Design” under auspices of Malaysian Structural Steel Association and at RIT Kottayam and “Research Methodology” at TKM College of Engineering. He has actively involved in many research projects like ” Load factor calibration of Offshore Jacket Platforms in Malaysia”, “Preservation and Structural Use of Rubberwood”, “Techniques to Improve the Cyclone Resistant Characteristics of the Roofs of Industrial Sheds”, Towards Cyclone Resistant Buildings Through Improvements and Innovations to Roofing System(QUT Australia), Semi-precast Light Weight Flooring Slab, Composite columns, Rehabilitation of damaged columns, Assessment of Corrosion Rate on Offshore Structural Members, Seismic Vulnerability Assessment, Analysis and retrofit of special structures etc. He has graduated several PhD and Postgraguate students and is a registered postgraduate research guide in Kerala University, Dr. Narayanan is life member of the Institution of Engineers(India), Indian Society for Technical Education and Indian Society for Wind Engineering.

Department of Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering B.Techprogramme at Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology, Anad, Nedumangad started in 2013-14 and the first batch of students successfully graduated last year. The department is equipped with best facilities and committed faculty to provide knowledge on theoretical and practical aspects of different areas of Civil Engineering.  Mission of the Department is to impart high quality education and training to encourage independent thinking and initiatives in students and to enable them to take up jobs in India and abroad in any area of Civil Engineering and to conduct research in advanced Civil Engineering and interdisciplinary areas. They are moulded for lifelong learning, social responsibility and ethical conduct, and professional competence to contribute towards the advancement of the individual and the society. Civil Engineering is a continuously evolving discipline. As technology has advanced the challenges facing the modern civil engineer has also increased. The course is designed to have an effective blend of engineering applications and mathematical rigor on students.

ADD-ON and Bridge Courses are provided by the department for all students with a view to make them employable, exposing them to new areas. Such courses include STAADPro (Analysis and design software), Primavera and Microsoft Project (Project Management software), AutoCAD, REVIT, etc. All the participating students will be provided with certificates.

Seminar Hall

The seminar hall of the department is equipped with facilities for conducting video lectures, technical presentations and student seminars. A conference hall is also provided for conducting department meetings and meetings with parents, guests etc.

Department Library

Apart from the Central Library, the department provides with high grade books which enables the students’access to standard text books and detailed references.   Practical project based reports and new technology seminar reports are also provided in the library. A fair number of technical periodicals, journals, magazines and GATE preparation books are available.

Placement Status.

Department is striving to provide best placement opportunities for the students and better career through career guidance classes. Opportunities for placement are available in core areas like building construction, highways, airport development, water supply systems in Government and Private Sectors and abroad also. Students have been placed in CORE companies, software companies and highly reputed companies through campus recruitment.

Lab Facilities

All the labs are independent and fully equipped with the State of the facilities and include Survey Lab, Strength of Materials Lab, Concrete Lab, Transportation Engineering Lab, Geotechnical Engineering Lab, Environmental Engineering Lab, CAD Lab etc. Special equipment include Universal Testing Machine, Total Stations and GPS, Theodolites and Levelling Instruments, Compaction factor & Flow test apparatus, Izod and Charpy Impact test, Brinell and Rockwell Hardness Tests, Rebound Hammer test, Los Angeles Abrasion Test, Proctor Compaction and CBR Test.
