Dr.Lathika.B.S completed her BSc Engg., M.Tech, PhD from College of Engineering, Trivandrum , under University of Kerala and has 29  Years of service in Government Engineering College . Retired as Professor from College of Engineering Trivandrum. She worked as Principal-in-Charge in Government Engineering College Idukky and also held the position of ‘Member of Faculty in Engineering’ of University of Kerala (2000-2006). Specialised in Power System and her Area of interest are  Power Quality( Harmonic mitigation), FACTS Soft computing. She has more than 20 publications in National and International Journal/Conferences. Presented a paper in IASTED international conference held at USA. She Joined MCET in April 2014

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) is a continuously evolving subject characterised by a diversity of fields encompassing areas of research, design, development and operation of electrical systems. This includes Electrical circuits, Power Generation systems & Distribution, power and micro electronics, computer systems, internal hardware, Biomedical Engineering, Space Exploration systems and many more.  Involvement of Electrical Engineers stretch from designing, implementing, maintaining and improving motors to radars. As technology has advanced, so have the challenges facing the modern engineer. With increasing demand for energy and newer areas of energy production the course provided ample opportunities for employment. The course is designed to have an effective blend of engineering intuition and mathematical rigor on students.

The B.Tech. program in Electrical Engineering was commenced in 2004 with an intake of 60 affiliated to University of Kerala and M.Tech. program (Power Systems) commenced in 2012 with an intake of 18. 2015 onwards the undergraduate and postgraduate programs are affiliated to Kerala Technological University.

FACULTY & TECHNICAL STAFF

The strength of the Department is the highly qualified, experienced faculty and the dedicated technical staff with ample experience. All faculty members are postgraduates and have members specialized in Power systems, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines and Control systems. Department has two professors with Ph.D. specialized in Power systems.

STUDENT CHAPTERS OF PROFESSIONAL BODIES

Students are members of professional bodies and various technical events are organized under these chapters. In the department there are vibrant student chapters of . IEEE  and the affinity IEEE groups IEEE- PES, IEEE WIE. All students of the department are members of  ISTE student chapter.

ASSOCIATION OF ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING STUDENTS (ETERJA)

The Electrical association is a forum of students and staff of the department which thrives towards the total personality development of the student. The motto of ETERJA is “Today’s Wastage is Tomorrow’s Shortage”. It acts as a platform for the students to create awareness about conservation of electrical energy in the society. The association promotes co-curricular activities such as debate, quiz, paper presentations, project exhibitions etc. The various activities of ETERJA enable the student to understand the practical and knowledgeable aspects of Electrical Energy and how to use them and apply them in the most appropriate manner.

ADD ON COURSES

ADD-ON courses on topics relevant to Industry and not covered in syllabus are provided to students to equip them to Industrial needs. Syllabus is finalized in consultation with Industry and experts from Industry are invited to engage such classes. In the academic year 2017-18 a 40 hour course was given to sixth semester students on ‘ARDUINO & ROBOTICS’

STUDENT  ACHIEVEMENTS IN AC. YR.2017-18

Project done by Mr. Gokul Raj S, Adithi P S, Aiswarya S of S8 EEE , under the guidance of Ms. Neethu U, AP EEE has won several laurels in various platforms.

Their paper titled “Conceptualization design and performance analysis of PV and wind system in a hilly region in Kerala” has been accepted by scientific committee Barcelona, Spain for video presentation at international conference on renewable energy 2018.This project under ANERT is going to be a Government proposal after the completion of “Conceptualization design and performance analysis of Hybrid PV – wind system in a hilly region in Ponmudi, Kerala. The project was selected as one of the top 30 projects in all Kerala project expo  SUSTAIN_EX conducted by Mathrubhumi at Malappuram MES College of Engineering secured 1st position in idea presentation on the project titled “ Comparative study of Solar and Wind system in Ponmudi region” in Tesla- 2018 conducted by CET .Again they won1ST prize in Idea presentation conducted by Younus Institute  of Engineering 2nd position and 3rd positions in idea presentation conducted by Govt College of Engg, Attingal & LBS institute of technology respectively

Apart from the Central Library department maintains a separate library for the benefit of teachers and students. At present the department library has 380 titles and 931 books.
