Fluid Solid systems lab is introduced for the fourth semester BT & BCE stream. The purpose of the lab is to make the students aware of the various flow behavior, measurement of fluid flow, pressure drop experienced by flowing fluids, particle size analysis and agitation parameters. The lab is set up to make the students aware of the various engineering measurement and problems which they encounter in a process industry.
To make the students aware of the flow measuring instruments and their calibration the lab is equipped with Venturimeter and Orifice meter. Determination of particle size distribution is done using sedimentation techniques, sieve analysis, hydrometer method. Studies for determination of flow behavior are conducted using Reynolds experiment apparatus. The lab is equipped with Packed bed apparatus and Fluidized bed apparatus for the determination of pressure drop. Experiment for the determination of drag coefficient and verification of Stoke’s Law for the fall of solid bodies is also done in the lab. Equipments are set for the study of parameters affecting agitation, flocculation etc.
Various demonstration studies are also done for flow measurement using weirs, notches and orifice and mouth piece apparatus. A Centrifugal Pump is setup for the study of pump characteristics. The lab is equipped with apparatus for the study of friction losses in pipes and fittings.
