MCET has associations for each department, which primarily focuses on the current developments in their respective fields, their applications, and conducts timely seminars, workshops and talks on their area. The association conducts industrial visits to prominent industrial places, thus enabling the students to listen to various industrial processes and to develop acknowledgement about industrial standards, and to make them into challenging professionals. The association works promises the students high employability in the competitive industry and help them to face the challenges.
In each year, the association is inaugurated by eminent people from their respective areas, and conducting talks and seminars on behalf of the association. The associations are:
ELIXIR(Association of Biotechnology)
ELIXIR – 2016 (Association of Department of BT&BCE) and IIChE, MCET Student Chapter were inaugurated by Dr. T. Jayachandran, Deputy director, PRSO,VSSC on 25th August 2016, 2pm at CGPC Hall , MCET, ANAD.Welcome Speech and introduction of the Chief Guest were delivered by Prof. S Alwan, HOD, BT&BCE. The Presidential address was given by Dr. Ashalatha Thampuran, Director, MCET. Then Dr. S Sheela, Principal, MCET addressed the gathering. Prof. Akhil T Nair (Satff in Charge ELIXIR & IIChE-MCET Student Chapter) has introduced the office bearers of ELIXIR and IIChE-MCET Student Chapter for next one year. Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Surya V (Secretary, ELIXIR). Debate on the subject “Retirement age for Polititians” was also organized
ACES(Association of Computer Science and Engineering)
ACES 2016 (Association of Computer science & Engineering Students) were inaugurated on 31st August 2016. The chief guest for the function, Mr. B.Ramani, Executive Director, C-DAC inaugurated the function and gave a talk on “Recent Trends in Cyber Security”. Dr. Sheela .S, Principal, MCET presided over the function. Dr.Jayaprakash P, HOD, Dept of CSE gave a welcome address to all dignitaries and Prof. Tomy Thomas, has felicitated the event. Mr.Nandu, Secretary ACES presented the academic year (2016-2017)activity plan. All HOD’s of various departments, Faculty and students of CSE were present in the event.
SPECTRA(Association of Electronics and Communication)
SPECTRA – 2016 (Association of Electronics and Communication Engineering Students) was inaugurated by Mr. Uma Maheshwaran R Scientist/ Engineer H, Project Director,GSLV VSSC Trivandrum on 23rdAugust, 10.30 AM at Mini Seminar Hall, Civil Block, MCET, Anad. The welcome speech was delivered by Dr. R Ibrahimkutty, HOD, ECE Dept..The Presidential address was given by Dr.AshalathaThampuran, Director, MCET followed by the address by Dr. S Sheela, Principal, MCET. Mrs. Anjali Rawther (Joint Secretary, SPECTRA) delivered the vote of thanks. Mr. Uma Maheshwaran R also gave a talk on “Evolution of Rocket Propulsion Systems” which provided an idea of the various activities of VSSC. Certificates were issued for students who topped in Circuit debugging and quiz competition organised as part of SPECTRA 16. The Chief Guest was also presented a memento by Dr.AshalathaThampuran.
MASTEC (MCA Association )
MASTEC is a platform that helps the students of MCA to grow with technical skills and also helps in the overall development of the student .The inauguration for the Association activities of MASTEC for the academic year 2016-17 was conducted on Sept-05-2016 at CGPC hall. The chief guest for the event was Mr. Dileep C.,Group Manager HR(Training & Development, IBS Software Services). The inauguration was graced by the presence of Dr. Ashalatha Thampuran (Director, MCET), Dr. Sheela S.(Principal, MCET), Prof.Sreeja K.(HOD-in charge, MCA department) and along with the student and staff community of the department of Computer Applications.
The function started with prayer. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Sreeja K. where she warmly welcomed the dignitaries and the student community and encouraged the students to be part of the student association activity and get benefited.
The presidential address was given by Dr.Ashalatha Thampuran. She encouraged the students to be technically equipped as she believes that everyone has the potential and there is room for mastering many core branches within the department. Her address highly motivated the students’ communities to a large extent.
In her address, Principal Dr Sheela S., stressed the need of conducting more and more value based activities under the association for the overall development of the students. She also expressed her support and encouragement for all the activities under MASTEC.
Association activities of MASTEC 2016 was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. Dileep.C by lighting the lamp. The chief guest (Mr. Dileep.C )was felicitated by the Director of MCET with a memento and he mentioned about the need for innovation. He said that each student has to come out from their shell innovate and explore new things. He also specified that the students should not only stick on to book knowledge but also implement it in their daily life. He urged the students to innovate in such a way that it would reduce the burden of every single individual.
HODs and faculty members of various departments of the college attended the function. The inaugural session came to an end with vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Ramachandran R, MASTEC Secretary.
In the afternoon session, as part of activities of MASTEC, a Software debugging competition was conducted for MCA students.
MEXTREYAZ(Mechanical Engineering Association)
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is having an active student association called MEXSTREYAZ. Dr. T.P.D. Rajan, Scientist, Materials and Minerals division, NIIST, Trivandrum inaugurated for the academic year 2012- 13.
The Mechanical Association, MEXSTREYAZ was inaugurated on 20/08/2016 at mini auditorium of MCET by Dr. Praveen Nair, Head, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Propulsion Research Group, VSSC. Principal Dr. S. Sheela and HoD Dr. B. Sivasubramonian delivered presidential address and welcome speech
- Followed by lighting of lamp and inaugural address by chief guest Dr. Praveen Nair. He delivered a talk on the topic ‘The Space mission’.
Rather than a scientific talk, it was related with the history of space mission, development of NASA and its contributions to the world. In the talk he also mentioned the projects undertaken by VSSC and the various launching by PSLV’s and their future plans. The talk was interesting and at the same time knowledgeable.
- Arun P.V, Prof. Harikrishnan Nair S and Prof. Deepak G of mechanical Dept. were the main coordinators of the function.
- The function concluded by 12 pm with vote of thanks by the student secretary Mr. Arun S Dileep of S7 Mechanical.

ETERJA(Electrical and Electronics Association)
ETERJA 2016 is the organization of students of Electrical and Electronics department. ‘ETERJA’ started with a vision to enhance the engineering skills, soft skills and other technical and non technical talents of the students, this year decided to focus on Energy conservation and management which has emerged as major policy objective for our nation. Various activities were planned to conduct under ‘ETERJA’ for the promotion of energy conservation and curb energy wastage through proper measures.
The activities of ETERJA for this year commenced with the inaugural ceremony conducted on 26th August 2016. The event was inaugurated by Shri.A.M.Narayanan, Head, Energy Efficiency Division, Energy Management Centre, Thiruvananthapuram and delivered a talk on “Supply chain and global energy management”. The different activities which includes competitions on paper presentation, quiz, debate, essay writing ,collage etc were already conducted and prizes were distributed in the inaugural function
SCULTURA – 2016 (Association of Civil Engineering)
The Civil Engineering Students Association, Scultura 2016, was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Dr KRS Krishnan, Former Director of HLL Lifecare Ltd on 29 August, 2016. The programme started at 9.30 AM. MCET Principal Professor Sheela presided over the function and advised the students on the need to organize useful programmes round the year. The Chief Guest addressed the students on the opportunities available in different specializations in Government and Private Sectors. The students exhibited their artworks in the premises of the college
